Murder at the Elms by Alyssa Maxwell

This was a great entry in the Gilded Newport Mysteries series, it had what I was looking for from this series and the author. Alyssa Maxwell has a great writing style and it works in the mystery genre. I enjoyed getting to know the characters again and loved the time-period used. I can't wait to read more from Alyssa Maxwell and this series.

"Jesse held my gaze. “The thing is, while her crime last night has nothing to do with The Elms, it doesn’t look good for her as far as this stolen necklace is concerned. Chief Rogers’s way of thinking is she’s a thief, so she might very well have stolen the necklace as well. And if she stole the necklace, she probably murdered Miss Varella.” I started to protest but he held up his hand to forestall me. “He has no proof whatsoever of either, or her bail would have been set much higher.”
